Back -|- First Page

Well, this is the final page and I might as well own up to a little trickery. You probably suspected it anyway and if you have ever gone to the Volcan Masaya, you knew it.

Shooting the Primary Photograph at some rocks near the crater.

One of the photos that we didn't use.

Once you get the primary photo, you need to get the foreground or background photo, or both, and it helps if the lighting conditions are about the same. The "pulpit" area in the next photo is where I went, holding out my camera over the edge as far as I could while snapping multiple shots.

Sherry, taking a photo of Max and Margaret.

From the above spot where Max and Margaret are standing, I snapped several photos, moving my camera around so that one of the shots might be at the correct angle, since I couldn't look through the viewfinder at the time. The photo below is the one that I settled on. it has just the right amount of the drop-off at the top and the hat helped make a story line.

Looking into the Volcan Masaya crater.

Because the photo of Max and the photo above were taken in different orientations, I had to resize one to fit the other and then adjust the lighting. I extracted all the foreground rock and Max from the first image and superimposed it over the second, ending up with a square image, aside from the obvious, an odd aspect ratio (ratio of height to width) like a square is usually a good sign of tampering with the image if something just doesn't seem right.

    Finally, the final result.

Max The Rock Climber

I hope you have enjoyed reading about our trip. We certainly had a good time. It is always relaxing to travel somewhere that people won't even bother trying to call you no matter what the "emergency." Nicaragua will become more and more commercialized and more and more "touristy" in the coming years in my opinion. It has so much to offer as a tourist destination and remains one of the better values in Central America. Thankfully, for the time being, most U.S. citizens are ignorant of anything but their memories of the revolution and the Iran-Contra scandal during the 1980's and most will probably never consider going to Nicaragua. If you are looking for a taste of Florida in a slightly more exotic setting, choose Cancun, Cozumel or Cabo San Lucas. If you want a little more adventure in tourism, Nicaragua is the place to go.
